Life is full of contradictions, but having a forgiving heart
can help us turn big issues into small ones. This lesson became clear to me
during a small incident over winter break.
Due to my love of sweets when I was younger, my teeth were in poor
condition, and one of my molars was causing me constant pain. Sometimes, I
couldn't even eat properly. To treat it properly, my father took me to the
hospital to have the tooth extracted.
After registering, we arrived at the dental clinic, where we saw only one
young male doctor in a white coat. This raised doubts in my mind: "Can this
young man extract my tooth effectively?"
Once inside, we learned that the young doctor was an intern. Unfortunately,
all the senior doctors were off that day. Since we were already there, we
had no choice but to proceed with the procedure.
Following the doctor's instructions, I bit down on the anesthesia. Thirty
minutes later, it was time to extract the tooth. The doctor came over with
the extraction tool, and I reassured myself, "It'll be fine; he can do it."
The cold instrument was inserted into my mouth, and I could feel that his
hands were trembling. The tool "grabbed" my tooth, and the doctor yanked it
out. "Ouch!" I cried out in pain as I felt a sharp, drilling sensation that
even lifted my head from the chair. I saw the doctor's brow furrowed with
sweat beads the size of peas forming on his forehead. "Come down for a
while, and we'll try again later," the doctor said to me. I nodded, holding
my mouth.
He smiled apologetically at me, and I forced myself to smile back.
I went back to sit beside my father. "Child, the doctor needs your
forgiveness at this moment," my father said calmly.
I sat back on the stool, and the doctor administered more anesthesia.
"Please extract it without worry. I believe you can do it," I said sincerely
to the doctor. This time, he pulled out the tooth quickly. "It's out!" I
exclaimed. Then the doctor stuffed a cotton ball in my mouth to prevent
bleeding. I saw his brow unfurrowed, and he seemed to have let go of a heavy
burden.
This small incident taught me the importance of forgiveness and how it can
change one's outlook. It made me realize that we should treat others with a
forgiving heart and that forgiveness is something everyone can practice. |
