As I took a stroll in the garden, snowflakes were swirling
around me. The sight of white and desolation filled my eyes, and although I
intended to enjoy the snow, my peace of mind was disturbed by the strange
and twisted tree branches.
"This weather is unlikely to offer anything worth admiring..." I muttered to
myself, about to turn back, when a faint yet captivating aroma stopped me in
my tracks. The fragrance was so pure and refreshing that it captivated my
soul and eased my mind. In that moment, the world seemed to come alive.
I searched and searched, and finally, I found the source of the fragrance: a
proud plum blossom amidst the odd branches. It was covered in a blanket of
white snow, and in the midst of the glistening and serene whiteness, it was
easy to miss its unremarkable presence. Despite the cold snow, the blossom
remained noble and its backbone unbroken. Its aroma spoke of its greatness,
and its graceful figure displayed its unyielding spirit. Its light pink
petals were spread out, revealing a faint red center, while its yellow
stamens swayed back and forth with the wind, snowflakes dusting their
surfaces and adding to the flower's charming beauty. In the midst of the
brutal winds, it blossomed brilliantly.
The plum blossom's fragrance is attributed to its perseverance in the face
of adversity. The Chinese poem says, "The fragrance of plum blossoms comes
from the bitterness of cold." In the harsh winter season when the north wind
howls and all other plants wither away, the plum blossom stands tall and
proud, showing the world its tenacity. The spirit of the plum blossom is
embodied in countless historical and modern figures, such as Song Lian, who
rose from poverty to become a trusted adviser to Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang; Ma
Pengfei, who shouldered his family's burden at a young age and matured into
a responsible adult; Lu Xun, who, despite being poor, used his hardships as
motivation to become a national icon; Stephen Hawking, who, despite being
confined to a wheelchair due to Lou Gehrig's disease, became a great
physicist; and Meng Hongsheng, who suffered from a rare bone disease since
childhood and became a famous clown. They all exuded the same fragrance of
resilience and perseverance, which only grew stronger as they weathered the
storm. Just as the plum blossom's fragrance grows stronger in the harsh
winter, adversity can strengthen a person's spirit, revealing their true
potential.
Standing in the freezing wind, gazing at the ice-covered plum blossom, I am
reminded of the legendary Taoist immortal Iron Feet Daoist. He walked
barefoot in the snow, mixing the plum blossoms and snow together and
ingesting them to absorb their fragrance, reciting the poem "Autumn Water"
and becoming one with the universe. He was not afraid of destruction because
he understood the importance of perseverance and hardship.
The fragrance of plum blossoms, in its own way, can uplift the spirit and
rekindle the soul. It embodies the essence of resilience, and it is a
reminder that even in the darkest of times, there is still hope. |
