A Little Bird's Quest for Freedom |
|
You fluttered your wings and flew into the classroom, causing us to cheer
and jump for joy. I stood behind the window, watching you as you came in.
We were all engrossed in learning the art of ventriloquism from Lin Sihuang
when you suddenly flew in. We were amazed by your cute chirping and your
agile flying skills. Gradually, we could see your features -
chestnut-colored head, black throat, black and yellow wings, round eyes,
small white feet with a hint of red. Though I cannot precisely describe you
in words, I can sincerely praise you as a lovely little elf!
You didn't give us a moment of peace in the classroom. First, you banged
your little head against the walls and windows, trying to escape. Then you
flew to a female classmate, who screamed in fear and remained speechless. I
didn't know if you were protesting against us with your behavior or if you
were just too anxious to fly away. In any case, I saw the tenacity of life
in you!
The male classmates rushed to catch you, but you evaded them skillfully.
Eventually, they managed to capture you in their hands. I didn't see your
expression, nor did I understand your feelings. But as soon as the teacher
said that she would release you, you finally flew out of the window to the
blue sky, where you belonged.
As I watched you frantically flapping your wings, I suddenly thought of the
word "freedom." Perhaps, you regarded our classroom as a birdcage, and if
you couldn't fly out, you would be imprisoned. So, you kept flying, hoping
to escape. Now, you could return to your blue sky, your nest, and your
companions. Luckily, your wish came true.
I also knew that you were a non-migratory bird because you lacked endurance
for long-distance flights. So, during the cold winter, were you shivering
and enduring hunger? Did you hide in your nest, with misty eyes filled with
tears? Now that spring has come, please don't fall into the cold birdcage
again after surviving the tough times. Soar high and embrace your freedom,
and have your own world!
When you flew away in their hands, I felt relieved. From behind the window
where you first flew in, I wished you the best on your quest for freedom. |
