Sara and Tasha were hiding
___1___ Lynn.
They needed to find a good hiding place, because
Lynn always seemed to be able to find them. They ran
behind the old casuarina tree in the middle of the
park. They tried to catch ___2___
breath and at the same time make themselves
invisible.
"Eight, nine, ten -- ready or not, here I come,"
shouted Lynn.
Lynn started running all over the park. It was
not a big park ___3___
it was surely an old one. The monkey bars were rusty
and many of the swings were ___4___
broken.
She looked under the dirty slide but there was no
sign of them. She ran to the monkey bars and climbed
to the top. She still could not see them. Then, Lynn
spotted the casuarina tree in the middle of the
park. Like the rest of the playthings in the park,
the tree was old ___5___
tired-looking. In fact, one of its branches seemed
as ___6___
it would fall any moment now.
Lynn climbed down from the monkey bars and ran to
the tree. She stood ___7___
one side of the tree. Sara and Tasha stood on the
other side of the tree holding their breath. The
tree trunk was so huge that Lynn could not see the
other two trying to suppress their giggles on the
other side.
Slowly, Lynn walked ___8___
the tree. She kept her back to the tree so she could
see everything. Sara and Tasha also walked slowly
around the tree. They tried to stay ___9___
ahead of Lynn so that she would not see them.
Suddenly, there was a loud crack and the three of
them looked up simultaneously. Piercing screams
reverberated ___10___
the air as the rotten branch came falling on them. |
