It was Christmas morning. Debbie tore down the
stairs as if there was a typhoon

her. Christmas was her favorite season ___2___
the year. It was not just because of the presents
she received ___3___
also because there was a big Christmas party at her
grandfather's house every year.
Debbie asked her mother for permission to open up
her presents. Her mother agreed, but ___4___
the condition that she finish up a hearty breakfast
first. Her mother knew that once Debbie started on
her presents, it would be almost impossible to tear
her away from ___5___.
Grudgingly, Debbie did as she was told. Her mother
had prepared a delicious breakfast. There ___6___
scrambled eggs, bacon and pancakes. Debbie put a bit
of everything on her plate and dribbled chocolate
sauce all over her freshly made pancakes. She
devoured everything in less than ten minutes. Her
mother wondered if that was because she wanted to
get to the presents faster ___7___
because the food was delicious. Once done, Debbie
asked to be excused ___8___
the table.
Under the Christmas tree, there were boxes and
boxes of prettily wrapped presents. Some of them
were big and heavy ___9___
others were small and light. Debbie looked for the
ones that were marked ___10___
her name. She found five of them ! She started with
the smallest one and slowly worked her way up to the
biggest one. She had received a pink backpack, a
sports watch, a pair of shoes, a board game and a
book from her favorite author. She was so grateful
for all the wonderful gifts. In fact, she
immediately curled up on the sofa with her new book. |
