Peggy was going to attend her first horse-riding
lesson today. She was excited
___1___ nervous
at the same time. She had always been fascinated ___2___
horses. They were such good-natured animals. She had
first asked her parents for horse-riding lessons ___3___
she was three. She was too young at ___4___
time so her parents had told her to wait until she
was older.
This year, Peggy turned eleven. Her parents had
given her a birthday present that came in an
envelope. She found it strange and wondered ___5___
present could possibly fit into an envelope. When
she finally opened it, her eyes were as wide as
saucers. It was the registration letter for
horse-riding lessons ___6___
the equestrian club. She squealed in excitement and
hugged her parents tightly.
For Peggy's first lesson, she learnt how to put
on her riding gear properly. This was important
because it ensured her safety. Next, she learnt ___7___
to place the harness on a horse, but she practiced
this on a wooden model of a horse's back. It looked
like the kind you saw in films. Finally, she was
introduced to a horse. It was not as big as she
thought because it was not a fully-grown adult horse
yet. It had a beautiful chocolate-colored coat of
fur and a charcoal-black mane. Peggy fell in love
with ___8___
instantaneously. The horse was aptly named Brownie.
When Peggy held out her hand to Brownie, it
nuzzled its nose in her palm. It was ticklish and
Peggy giggled. Peggy interacted with Brownie for
half ___9___
hour so that it could be used to Peggy. Then,
Peggy's instructor allowed her to mount Brownie. It
was quite scary because it was very high up. ___10___
a start, her instructor held onto the reins and
guided Brownie inside an enclosed area. Peggy was
apprehensive at first but slowly relaxed when she
realized that she was not going to fall off Brownie.
Peggy enjoyed herself tremendously. She could not
wait for her next lesson the following week. |
