Lucas had just fallen asleep when he heard a loud
sound coming from downstairs. With a groan, he

bed. He thought that it was his cat that had jumped

feline had broken something. "Cookie! Cookie!
Where are you ? Did you break something again ?
Cooke, come here !" Lucas hollered as he walked down
the stairs. The cat did not appear. Lucas continued

he stopped his way into the kitchen.
When Lucas got to the kitchen, he was surprised

place as tidy as he had left it before he had gone
to bed. He looked around the living and dining rooms

broken shards on the floor anywhere. So where could

Puzzled, Lucas started his way back upstairs to
sleep. As he took the first few steps up the stairs,

a shuffling sound near the back door. Suddenly, his
senses were all on alert and he was no longer
sleepy. He gingerly took out a golf club and tiptoed

door. He gasped as he saw a silhouette outside. By
now, his heart was palpitating and his palms were
sweaty. He gripped the club tightly with both hands
until his knuckles were white. he was all poised ___9___
swing at the intruder. Then, he saw the doorknob
slowly turning and he held his breath. Suddenly, the
door flung open and he saw a familiar face. It was

"Edwin! What are you doing sneaking around in the
dark ?"
"It is late and I didn't want to wake you. What
are you doing with Dad's golf club ?"
Lucas explained everything and the two of them
