Association with Chi Lin
Legend also associates the long life lock coin with the Chi Lin. For as long as
we can remember, the Chi Lin is a celestial animal which helps parents to
conceive a baby. Confucius was believed to have been brought by the Chi Lin to
his parents and in many old books, Confucius is referred to as Chi Lin's son.
Traditional Chinese paintings show children sitting on the Chi Lin and standing
on the rainbow. These paintings are believed to symbolize the Chi Lin bringing
children luck. These children's hands are often depicted holding lotus flowers.
This symbolizes many children. Lotuses are also expected to protect children
from accidents. Long life lock coins always come with the words " Chang Ming Fu
Kwei " which means long life and prosperity. |
