A Cat and a Mouse

 

Once there were ______ (1) cat and ______ (2) mouse who were very much in love with each other.

 

One day, ______ (3) cat went down on his knees and proposed to ______ (4) mouse. ______ (5) mouse accepted ______ (6) proposal and ______ (7) lovers decided to inform their families.

 

When ______ (8) mouse told her family about ______ (9) plan, her mother was aghast and said, "My dear girl, you can't possibly marry ______ (10) cat ! ______ (11) cat is our enemy."

 

When ______ (12) cat announced ______ (13) marriage to his family, they were terrified. ______ (14) cat's father pulled him aside and said, "Son, you can't marry ______ (15) mouse. It is against our tradition."

 

Since both of them did not want to disappoint their families, they decided to go their separate ways and pursue their own interests. ______ (16) cat, who was very musical, joined ______ (17) town's philharmonic orchestra and ______ (18) mouse, who was ______ (19) good singer became ______ (20) opera singer in another city.

 

As fate would have it, ______ (21) two of them met again when ______ (22) opera troupe of which ______ (23) mouse was ______ (24) member, was invited to perform at ______ (25) diamond anniversary celebration of the town's foundation day. the cat and the mouse met up for dinner after the show. they were eager to catch up on what they had been up to since they last saw each other.

 

Although the cat and the mouse could not get married, they remained the best of friends.
